Summer

Henley River and Rowing museum

On Monday, Walnut class visited the museum to support the geography topic on rivers. We took a stroll down the Thames and saw the lock is action. We also had time to explore the inside of the museum and learned more about boating throughout the ages. It was great to explore the tale of The Wind in the Willows before lunch. After lunch, we had an interactive workshop where we learned about permeable and non-permeable rocks and developed our understanding of erosion. This hands-on part of the trip was great for our understanding and a wonderful way to end the day.

Science

Our unit for the final summer term is plants. We are busy watching and watering our sunflowers that have started to form shoots.

Whilst we wait for them to all grow, we have been learning about the role of the stem with transporting water and nutrients up the plant. In this lesson we used water with colour dye and placed a flower and celery into it. In a week's time we will write up our observations.

Skateboarding

We were very lucky to have a visit from a Rubicon team member who taught us how to use a skateboard. The children loved learning a new skill and gained confidence over the session.

Computing

We have been using Micro:bits this term to track light levels, temperature and sound. Today we explored different temperatures around school. We found that the shade given by the trees in forest school made it cooler compared to the bright sun shining on the field and trim trail.

Here we are programming and then exploring our school environment.

Art - sculptures

In our art from last term, we started looking at sculptures. We have been inspired by the work of Alberto Giacometti. Here we are in action trying out modelling techniques with tin foil.
