Autumn Term 2 - Owl Visit!
This term, our Year 1 topic text is 'The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark' by Jill Tomlinson. We are also learning about animal habitats and nocturnal animals in Science.
To kickstart our topic, we invited Millets Falconry Centre into school to show us four different owls! We had the chance to gaze at their beautiful feathers, watch them swooping around our heads like real-life Hogwarts, and ask any questions we had!
Autumn Term 1 - Autumn Activities
As October half term drew nearer, we began to investigate the changing seasons and the traditions surrounding Harvest time. We spent lots of time outdoors spotting signs of Autumn and discussing the changes in nature and the weather. We learnt Harvest songs in Music and wrote Autumn senses poems in English. We also collected lots of leaves to create leaf men!
Autumn Term 1 - Computing
This term we have been learning how to the use the school chrome books! We learnt how to log on using our school email addresses, use the Google search engine to find a Maths game, and then use the cursor and touch pad to play a number sequencing game on Topmarks!
Autumn Term 1 - Science: The Human Body
In Science, we have been learning about the different parts of the human body, the functions of the five human senses, and some functions of different organs.
To start the topic, we drew around each other and labelled all the parts we already knew!
We also carried out different investigations to test our senses! These pictures show taste and smell tests we took part in:
Autumn Term 1 - 'Only One You' Art
To start the year, our class book was 'Only One You'. We held lots of class circle times to discuss what makes a good friend, how we can show respect to others, and what we can do to show appreciation to the world around us. The children looked at the artwork created by Linda Kranz and made their own collage and pebble fish.
Autumn Term 1 - Transition into Year 1
In September, the children enjoyed settling into their new class and learning the new expectations and routines for Year 1. This involved lots of learning through play and a transition afternoon with Mrs Surtees in Reception.
