DT- Making a Fairground Ride

In DT this term we have been focusing on mechanisms and in particular the use of gears and pulleys. We have designed and created our own fairground rides in groups using a motor, pulleys and gears. We enjoyed bringing out designs to life!

WW1 Experience Day

WW1 Day

On Wednesday 6th November Year 5/6 had a WW1 experience day. Our first session involved an experience with a WW1 soldier. We learnt about life in the war, looked at artefacts and even joined in with drills, war games and battle. It was great fun and we all enjoyed it!

We then worked in groups to create 'Anzac Biscuits' using ingredients they would have used in WW1. The smelt and tasted delicious and many of us have asked for the recipe to re-create them at home!

In the afternoon we had a visit from a woman in WW1 and we learnt about the roles women had to help the war effort. We learnt about the fight to get women the vote and even took part in a protest!

Our last session involved us creating our own ceramic poppies out of clay. We needed to mould, shape and curt our clay to size. Once they dried we then painted them.

Year 5 Playleaders

On Tuesday 22nd October some of our Year 5 children were trained to be playleaders. They took part in both theory and practical sessions led by staff from FCC and Year 9 Sports Leaders. Our children are very excited about putting their knew knowledge into action, helping the children at our school have fun lunchtimes.

Harvest Art

We studied the artist Jim Dine and looked at how he contrasts a hint of colour within a black and white scene. We focused on his picture' Heart in Nature' and then re-created our own using the autumn leaf.
