Summer 2024

DT- Pizza Making

This term our DT unit involved food and nutrition for a celebration. We wanted to have a picnic to celebrate the hard work of Willow class this year.  We made our own dough in groups and then used this dough to create our own pizzas. They were delicious!

Science - Term 6

This term in Science we have been looking at classification as part of our topic on living things and their habitats. Our investigation this week involved us looking at how we could show that microorganisms are living things. The children enjoyed the practical, using yeast and balloons to demonstrate this.

Visit by Stephen Haywood

On Wednesday 3rd July, Stephen Haywood came in to school to talk to the year 6 children about all thing Science. Stephen works over at Harwell and has been involved with the Large Hadron Collider over in Cern. The children thoroughly enjoyed the talk and had lots of questions, ranging from why the moon changes to colour, to questions around the northern lights and why the earth orbits the sun. Many thanks to Stephen for coming in and inspiring our next generation of scientists!

Final Sailing Session July 2024

What a difference a week makes! This week the wind had returned and our Year 6 children could unfurl the sails on their boats and put the skills they had learnt over the last couple of sessions to good use as they sailed out on to Farmoor Reservoir! Well done everyone!

STEM Project

This year our STEM challenge was to design and build a marble run. Our design brief asked us to use cardboard to build the structure and the challenge was to get our marble to complete the run as close to 4 seconds as possible. This proved to be trickier than we first thought! We had lots of fun working in teams and learnt a lot along the way.

Sailing June 2024

Over the past couple of weeks, our Year 6 children have been lucky enough to go sailing with Oxford Sail Training at Farmoor Reservoir. We've had a great couple of weeks so far. Week 1 saw high winds so difficult, fast sailing conditions but today the sun was shining and there was no breeze so a different kind of fun on the water - paddling the boats under our own steam and lots of jumping in!

Group B had the chance to jump into the river after caving. Some enjoyed it SO much they had 3 turns!
