Friday 4th September Year 1 Maths Lesson - Subitising

Today in maths, Year 1 had great fun learning about subitising by recognising how many objects there are without counting them one by one. The children played an exciting partner matching game, finding different pictures that showed the same value. They enjoyed working together, developing their number skills, and building confidence in recognising numbers quickly and accurately.

Wednesday 9th September Year 1 Maths Lesson - Comparing Mass

This morning, Year 1 explored the concept of mass by comparing a variety of objects. They began by discussing and recording items that were heavier and lighter than themselves. The children then used balancing scales to compare the mass of different objects. While measuring, they confidently used a range of stem sentences to describe and compare the objects.

Wednesday 9th September History Lesson - Comparing historical artefacts

In History, the children explored a range of historical household artefacts from the past. They carefully examined each object, making predictions about what they thought it might have been used for and explaining their reasoning. The children then looked at a variety of houses and discussed whether they were old or modern, identifying features that helped them make their decisions. At the end of the lesson, they discovered the true purpose of each artefact and learnt how these objects were used in everyday life in the past. This provided an exciting opportunity to compare life today with life in previous generations.
