At John Blandy, we have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Cambrian Learning Trust Science Fair. In Sycamore, we have been preparing for this, and we chose to investigate evaporation and what conditions might affect it. We observed as a class and then the children split off into pairs to create their posters and presentations. Two pairs from each class were chosen to present in front of the whole school! We have loved this investigation and below are some of their fantastic posters.

In Art this term, we have been learning about Frida Kahlo. The children have been experimenting and learning how to draw facial features with oil pastels in order to draw a Frida Kahlo-inspired self-portrait.

The 2026 Children's Mental Health Week focused on 'belonging', what this feels like and when and where we feel a sense of it. In Sycamore, we have reflected on this and created a 'This is my place map' inspired by Ricky Martin (This is My Place: Art Activity). The children thought about what makes them feel they are happy, safe and comfortable and therefore feel they belong. This might be at football, at home, at school, with your friends and family, when you are drawing etc. Below are their 'This is my place' maps.

Wow! What a fantastic day! In Sycamore class, we made marmalade sandwiches (because Miss Empson loves Paddington!) and we wrote instructions on how exactly we made them. The children then thoroughly enjoyed the bake sale a break time and got the opportunity to bring home a new book from our school book swap. The children made amazing 'top trump' style cards for their character and we had an ultimate character champion battle! This was brilliant for their oracy skills and really ignited the children's love for reading. We ended the day with all of the teachers moving to different classes and reading a story. Sycamore had the privilege of Mrs Bushnell reading to them. What a lovely way to end a fantastic day.
