Tag Rugby Tournament at FCC - Tuesday 7th October 2025
On Tuesday 7th October, 2 teams of children represented our school at the Tag Rugby event at FCC. The children all did incredibly well with our Year 5 team finishing 3rd overall. Here is a write up by some of the children who attended:
Some children in Year 5 and 6 went to the tag rugby tournament. The tournament was held at FCC (it was extraordinary). We had two teams: one Year 6 and the other Year 5. We started off with a match and luckily, we won. The next game was for the Year 5 team. Overall, the Year 5 team had 4 games so did the Year 6 team. Whilst the Year 5s were playing, Year 6 had a break and an opportunity for a snack. Then, it was time to have our next game, in our teams we took in turns playing and being on the sideline cheering our team on. The rules were you were not aloud to dive, spin or pass forward and if you did any of these things, the ball would go to the other team.
The next game we played was a tie. It was very tough game but we managed to score to make us tie. It ended up being 1-1. At the end of the tournament, the Year 5 team had to play a final game to see who got 3rd place and they won! Year 6 team came 4th in Year 6. Overall we did very well and had a lot of fun too.

Cross Country Event at Buscot Park KS2 - Tuesday 30th September 2025
On Tuesday 30th September, a group of children represented John Blandy at the cross country event at Buscot Park. The run is pretty tough but all the children did brilliantly well, finishing the course with some great performances.
Our Year 3/4 boys won their event and now qualify for the Vale finals at Tilsley Park in November, a fantastic achievement boys, well done! Our Y5/6 boys team finished third, with both our girls teams putting in some fantastic performances.
There were also some outstanding individual performances. The children represented the school well, consistently showing our school values throughout the morning - well done to everyone who took part!
Here is a write up about the event by Olly (Year 6):
First, we started to get on the bus and were heading to Cross Country. On the way there, we picked up another school and started singing along. Not long after, we arrived. We were all nervous but ready to do this! We got off the bus and started walking through the track. Halfway there, the grass was soaking, so our trainers were soaking too.
Year 3 and Year 4 had 1.5 km to run, and Year 5 and Year 6 had 1.9 km. Year 3 and Year 4 girls raced first. As the person blew the whistle, they were off! They had a strong start, but they were running up a massive hill. We all cheered them on as they started. Near the end, we ran to cheer them on again, and as they finished, we gave them high fives.
Now it was the Year 3 and Year 4 boys’ turn. The person blew the whistle, and off they went! They were doing so well. As they sprinted to the finish line, we cheered them on. They all crossed the line together!
Next up were the Year 5 and Year 6 girls. They were nervous, but they didn’t give up. The whistle blew and off they went! Once again, they had a fantastic start and ran up the hill. This time, it would take a little longer. Round the corner they went - we could see them running around the hill, but it wasn’t over yet. As they did the last stretch, they were sprinting to the line. It was great to watch. They crossed the line.
Now it was time for the final race: the Year 5 and Year 6 boys. The whistle blew and off they went! They had a wonderful start and went straight up the hill. Around the hill they went - and again, it wasn’t over yet. As they ran the long stretch, they sprinted to the finish line and just like that, the race was done.
All we were waiting for now were the results…
Year 3 and Year 4 girls were the first to know. They didn’t qualify, but they had an amazing run. Year 3 and Year 4 boys were next. Did they qualify? Yes, they did - and we were all so happy for them, as they would go to Tilsley Park! Year 5 and Year 6 girls found out next. Sadly, they didn’t qualify, but they had an awesome run. Year 5 and Year 6 boys were the last to find out. Unfortunately, they didn’t qualify either, but they also ran amazingly well.
We all did so well.
After that, we took a photo, then headed back to the bus. We were all so happy - for ourselves and for our friends. We dropped off the other school and headed back.
Lastly, when we got off the bus, we were tired - and headed straight back to school…
On Wednesday and Thursday last week, all our KS1 and KS2 children took part in a skateboarding session whilst our reception children had a scootering lesson. We all learnt some key skills and tricks and then had a go! All the children had lots of fun trying the skateboards or scooters out and hopefully learnt some new skills!
Quadkids at FCC on Wednesday 4 June
Our Y3/4 boys and girls and Y5/6 boys and girls teams took part in the Quadkids competition at FCC on Wednesday 4 June. All the children competed brilliantly well, demonstrating our school values throughout. Our Y5/6 team finished in 3rd place overall with our Y3/4 team finishing 4th. There were some great individual performances in various events, in particular Jacob who won the overall Y3/4 boys event and Tyler finishing 2nd in the Y5/6 category - amazing results boys, well done! Well done to everyone who took part and a big thank you to Mrs King and Mrs Kuzmina for accompanying the children and cheering them on!
On Wednesday 12th February, a group of girls travelled to FCC to take part in a football festival. the girls played in two teams and worked on some key skills, as well as competing in some matches against the other schools. The girls played extremely well and represented the school brilliantly - well done girls! A big thank you to Mrs King and Mrs Penny for accompanying them to the event.
On Wednesday 29th January, a group of children from Year 1 and 2 travelled to FCC to take part in a sports skills festival. Here are some of their thoughts on the morning:
I had fun, we played games, we had a parachute where we learnt different games to play with it. At the end we got stickers and we got sweets.
I had a good time we balanced beanbags on our heads, played tick tack toe with hoops and we had sweets.
Orla and Olivia
All the children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and were a credit to the school. Well done to all of them and a big thank you to Mrs Wheeler and Ms Skeet for taking them.
Our Trip to FCC
Some Year 3s and some Year 4s went on a coach to FCC to do some sport games with people from different schools. It was very fun. We supported everyone in their sport races to do their best. It doesn’t really matter if you win or not because it’s all about having fun.
There were different sections, we had to go around clockwise in our groups. We played a survival game where you were a person or a shark and we had to jump on people if we heard ‘shark attack’. There became more sharks and less islands so it became more tricky. We played many throwing game sand running games.
There was one game that was an obstacle course. There was a ladder with pretend lasers which you had to not touch. It was very fun. There were also beanbag throwing games where you had to throw a bean bag into three hoops, but it started to get tricky because the hoops were further away. There were different sections, we had to go around clockwise in our groups.
We had a really fun day.

On Wednesday 20th November, some children in Year 5 and 6 went to a Tag Rugby festival at FCC along with a few other schools. We were split into 2 groups (A and B) and we set off to do a warm up. After our warm up, the director called us over to play our first match. Thankfully, we won and then proceed to win our next match! Sadly, our third match didn't have the same success and we lost by quite a big score. Our final match was just for training but we were still happy that we won. Overall, we have a fun time and managed to win most of our matches.

On Wednesday this week, our Year ¾ and Year 5/6 boys' teams represented The Cambrian Learning Trust at the Cross Country Vale Finals held at Tilsley Park. The courses are tough and all the boys performed brilliantly well. Our Year ¾ boys were outstanding and finished joint first! They now qualify for the County Finals to be held in March - an amazing achievement. Jacob was the stand out individual performance, finishing 3rd place overall in a very competitive field. All the boys represented the school and the Trust incredibly well and we are very proud of all of them - well done boys!
